Trados Studio 2011

The purpose of this course is to get project managers, translators and reviewer up to speed in SDL Trados Studio 2011. At the end of the course, participants will have an overall understanding of Studio 2011 procedures, processes, functions and workflows.

Prerequisites

While basic computer knowledge is assumed, the pace of this course is determined by the participants - no question is too basic and I definitely don’t mind explaining basic concepts (what is a basic concept may be an advanced concept for a participant).

Morning Day 1

  • Review of course outline and expectations
  • CAT technology overview, industry definitions, concepts and basics
  • Trados Studio user interface overview
  • Basic translation workflow: from project creation to delivery
  • Understanding statistics and file analysis

Hands-on: Translating your first document

Afternoon Day 1

  • Trados Studio functions in depth
  • Translation of projects with multiple files
  • Keyboard shortcuts
  • Advanced Studio features
  • Translation and reviewer roles
  • Using Track Changes

Hands-on: Track Changes and reviewing

Morning Day 2

  • Advanced TM management: importing, exporting, conversion
  • Termbase creation and term management
  • Using quality assurance and spellcheck
  • Using batch processes
  • Understand and use PerfectMatch

Hands-on: Creating a glossary and performing QA

Afternoon Day 2

  • Using SDL Trados OpenExchange extensions
  • User profiles
  • Using meta information to provide more information about segments
  • How to use pseudo translation to better prepare for translation
  • Leveraging Machine Translation in Trados Studio
  • Translation processes and workflows by document type
