Presentation: Tianjin Foreign Studies University/天外翻译讲师 English and translation instructors
Dr. Hua Zhu/朱华, Lecturer at Tianjin Foreign Studies University/天外翻译讲师 invited me to encourage English and translation instructors to include more localization-related content in their courses. The title, “big picture,” is especially relevant, because in a translation course, it‘s easy to focus on the trees, when the forest (the language services industry) is what is driving the creation of translation projects in the first place! Translators who don’t have a good overview of the industry won’t be prepared to effectively help their clients or respond to dramatic changes in the industry. While my point of view was primarily from North America, it was very interesting to learn how translation faculty in China are innovating in the classroom.
